Fido.Net was founded in 2001 phoenix like from the ashes of the original FidoNet bulletin board systems and European Regional Echomail and Netmail Gateways.

Fido’s founder Jon Morby (originally involved in FidoNet from as early as 1985) decided to focus on bridging the gap between the old UUCP/Dialup networks and the “modern” tcpip based networking services which heralded the Internet.
